Welcome to the What’s On! Guide for this week. With a wide range of things to see and do around the county, Órla McNabola presents what Leitrim has in store this week.
If you want to bust your gut laughing, The Corn Mill Theatre Carrigallen is the place to be on Friday and Saturday night for ‘Loophole’. “Páidí has just six months left to live and decides to leave the farm to best friend Cass. Páidí’s no-good brother Rooster won’t be pleased but hopefully solicitor Miss Murphy will sort everything out, with the help of the two nosey neighbours Mairéad and Molly.”
This hilariously funny 3-act play is performed by the Mohill based Acorn Players and written by John McManus. Actor Pádraig McLoughlin tells us about it.
Visual artist Nollaig Molloy will host a workshop on 3D line and shadow drawing in The Dock on Saturday morning. The Roscommon-based masters student help attendees to create a temporary large scale 3D line drawing, exploring the importance of drawing as a starting point but also its use as a centre point in the process of making.
Also on Saturday in The Dock will be two concerts specifically designed for parents, grandparents and carers to enjoy in the company of babies, toddlers and young children. Tabby O Callaghan and Kieran Quinn will win you and your baby over with their rock-style nursery rhymes and childrens’ songs. Successful Sligo musician Tabby tells us more.
County Clare singer Shirley Grimes takes to the stage in The Glens Centre on Saturday night. A Swiss-based musician, Shirley will kick off her first ever Irish tour that night and it’s sure to be a night of beautiful music from her 3-piece band.
Come and join the Dirtbirds as they navigate the stresses and strains of modern life in their brand new comedy show ‘Dirtbirds Self-Help Tour’. This rip roaring two hours of comedy gold is a unique blend of hilarious sketch comedy and stand up. If you haven’t managed to get tickets to their show in The Dock tomorrow week (Fri 18 Oct), you can catch them in The Glens Centre at a later date (Fri 9 Nov). The flags and jerseys will be all out in force in Avantcard Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada this Sunday for the back to back county finals. At 1pm Drumkeerin take Leitrim Gaels in the Smith Monumentals Leitrim Intermediate Football Championship Final. Ballinamore Seán O’Heslins then battle it out with Glencar Manorhamilton in the final of the Connacht Gold Leitrim Senior Football Championship at 3pm. Breifne joins Órla to discuss this weekend’s sporting action.
Next Wednesday Carrick Cineplex host the premiere of ‘Dark Lies The Island’, a film based on the novels of Kevin Barry. Filmed around Boyle and Lough Key, the film encapsulates some recognisable places and also faces, amongst its Irish actors are Tommy Tiernan, Pat Shortt and Charlie Murphy.
