Terry Hyland, Thomas McDonald, Leitrim Ladies Launch, Carrick Rugby – Sports Roundup: Episode 158

This week proved to be a tough weekend for all associated with Gaelic Football at county level with weakened squads taking heavy defeats for both our U20 and Senior sides. Leitrim Ladies showcased the progress they’ve made with a new jersey launch and Carrick Rugby Club’s underage are all featured in this week’s show with Breifne Earley.

We caught up with Leitrim Manager Terry Hyland after a rough weekend on the playing pitches with a massive scoring margin against Roscommon in the FBD League Semi Final and at U20 level at the hands of Longford. As part of a group interview with other local media he discusses the outcome of the weekend’s games and what lessons or learnings were made and where the teams go from here.

Thomas McDonald, player manager of Manor Rangers, joins us to discuss the fantastic 2-0 victory over defending league champions Carbury to blow the superleague title race wide open between those two sides and Cartron Utd. Breifne and Thomas discuss the game and what it means for the three sides in the chase of silverware this season.

Leitrim Ladies have made great strides in recent years and yesterday they launched another fantastic partnership with MFC, an Irish sportswear company who will be providing their match and training gear for the 2020 season.

At the launch of the partnership and their new jersey yesterday in Carrigallen Breifne spoke to County Secretary PJ Ryan and Director of MFC Fabian O’Neill as well as returning player Ailbhe Clancy.

Finally we take a look at underage rugby in Carrick on Shannon with one of the coaches of their U17 side, Liam Farrell, after their defeat to Gort Rugby yesterday.
