Niall Morahan, Mairead McCawley & Sports Awards – Sports Preview: Episode 194

This weekend we’re talking soccer as Shamrock Rovers visit the Showgrounds, it’s Limerick for the Ladies while we celebrate some of the fantastic sporting performances of the last month with our Monthly Sports Awards.

Sligo Rover’s newest Player of the Month, Niall Morahan joins Breifne to discuss ‘that goal’, the impact felt of the resulting worldwide exposure around the league and more importantly for Rovers, how the home side are preparing for the visit of Shamrock Rovers tomorrow evening to The Showgrounds.

Ballinaglera footballer Mairead McCawley will be sharing her positive reaction to being back in the county jersey and the impact that is being seen on the pitch this season with the squad the most competitive it’s been for many years. After the disappointing defeat to Louth she talks about focusing on the task in hand as Limerick visit Pairc Sean on Sunday.

Finally it’s been a long time coming but after a mammoth reaction to our Sports Awards where almost 1,000 of our listeners voted across the three categories on offer: Local, National and International.

Breifne is joined by a veteran of the 1980 Olympics, Rower Frances Cryan who finished 7th in Moscow, former International cross country athlete and freelance journalist PJ Leddy and Ray McBrien, manager of current ladies football champions, former senior champion in 2000 and one of Leitrim’s top gaelic football referees to discuss the merits of each nominee and together with the results of the online poll to decide the winner in each category.

In what can best be described as a Eurovision style points battle, which person or team will emerge at the top of each category and will you agree with the decision.
