Leitrim Ladies, Niall Morahan & Leitrim GAA – Sports Roundup: Episode 196

It seems kind of fitting to be female dominated on the show this weekend for International Women’s Day as we’re chatting Ladies Football at Senior and Minor Level as well as featuring Sligo Rover’s newest goalscorer Niall Morahan after the Bit O’Red’s defeat to Shamrock Rovers.

We start the show with a look at all the sporting action across the weekend affecting Leitrim teams, athletes and supporters including Ladies Football, Club Gaelic Games & Sligo Rovers.

We speak to Ladies manager Hugh Donnelly after the Leitrim girls blew away the challenge of Limerick in their league clash while captain Clare Owens and newly returned midfielder Sarah McLoughlin talk about their experience so far this season.

Sligo Rover’s manager Liam Buckely and Leitrim’s representative in the team Niall Morahan speak to Breifne after their defeat to Shamrock Rovers on Saturday evening. Despite Niall scoring his first goal for the Bit O’Red it wasn’t enough to secure their first league points of the season.

Our Ladies Football Minor team continued their Connacht Championship campaign with a spirited performance against Mayo on Friday evening under lights in Cloone. Their manager Jerome Quinn spoke to Breifne about the impact belief in their abilities can have for Leitrim athletes running the visitors to a 4 point margin in the game as their bid for a Connacht final place continues.

Finally Declan Bohan, Secretary of Leitrim GAA, explains the new club league structures which will allow the average club player in Leitrim to have more games particularly when Inter County activity is at it’s highest levels in March, May & June most years.
