Leitrim GAA, LGFA & Sligo Rovers – Sports Preview: 203
With the return of sport across the country we’re back to preview the local action in the club championships at Senior, Intermediate and Junior level for both the Men’s and Women’s Football Championships.
Breifne Earley is joined by Declan Bohan, Secretary of Leitrim GAA to look at the structures, dates and draws for the Championships which will all kick off in two weekends time,
They discuss the draws, the rules which have been brought in to reduce the risk of spreading the virus, the impact the shutdown has had on the finances of Leitrim GAA and finally a look forward to a busy fortnight of league and championship action for our county footballers later in the year.
PJ Ryan, secretary of the Ladies Football Association in the county explains the changes to the ladies football competition structures to facilitate extra games at all levels for the adult clubs which will return one week later than their male counterparts at the end of July.
Also Breifne and PJ talk about this week’s draw for the LGFA Intermediate Football Championship which sees Leitrim face Meath and Down in Group 3 of the championship with the group winner progressing to the Semi Final.
Finally with all the discussion about possible return of the the League of Ireland we have white smoke regarding the format, number of games, finances and the issues surrounding relegation and promotion which proved to be the final stumbling block.
Niall Morahan joins Breifne to talk about his experience of being back at training, the differences between session pre and post Covid restrictions, the phenomenal response from the supporters of the Bit O’Red to their request for funds to ensure they see out the season.
