Ladies Football & Junior Football Championship – Sports Preview: Episode 208

After the excitement of getting our sports back up and running last weekend, it’s the turn of the ladies as the Leitrim Ladies football championships kick off this weekend alongside the Men’s Junior Championships.

We’ll also be featuring a look at the second round of fixtures in both the Leitrim GAA Senior and Intermediate Football Championships as the group tables will start to take shape with another series of games to come tomorrow evening.

We’ll be talking to members of all six senior ladies sides in the county ahead of the competition starting on Sunday morning alongside the secretary of Leitrim Ladies PJ Ryan (10:30).

The reigning Champions St. Joseph’s face a trip to Kiltubrid in a repeat of the 2017 county final and are represented on the show by Shannon O’Rourke (14:30). While twice beaten finalists Glencar / Manor face a trip to Drumshanbo to play St. Francis in their attempt to make it third time lucky in 2020, we’re joined by their captains Eimear Feely and Rebecca Rooney (17:25).

In alphabetical order the rest of the clubs are represented by Kiltubrid’s Michelle Guckian (20:13), Laura O’Dowd (22:19) of Sean O’Heslins, their opponents on Sunday in a newly amalgamated St. Brigid’s side Carla LaGuen (24:59) who’ll chat to us about life as a new entity in the game and finally St. Francis pair Dara Morahan & Roisin McGrenaghan (26:23).

Mohill’s Deirdre Ward (29:22) also had a chat with us about her sides hopes to go one better than last years Intermediate final appearance this time around.

In the Men’s Junior grade which starts on Sunday also we hear from Glenfarne Kilty boss Aidy McCallion (31:54) and we close the show with the last club to get their adult campaign up and running. Fintan McBrien (40:46), manager of Aughavas who don’t have their first game until Sunday week in the Junior ranks.
