Hugh Donnelly, Dean Clancy & Brian McDonald – Sports Preview: Episode 162

A week out from the launch of the National Football & Hurling Leagues we’re talking boxing with Irish International Dean Clancy, Women’s Football with new Senior Leitrim manager Hugh Donnelly and Manor Rangers giant killing exploits with Brian McDonald.

Dean Clancy brings us up to up date with his exploits since securing the National Elite Championship last November. His training programme has been ongoing ahead of an international tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria next week.

He’s excited at the prospect of competing in Sofia against a strong field of international fighters including previous Irish and current European Champion Kurt Walker to establish which athlete will compete in the upcoming Olympic Qualification competitions in Paris and London.

Hugh Donnelly spoke to us at the Jersey Launch for Leitrim Ladies Football last weekend about his first impressions, the squad’s development to date and their prospects ahead of what’s shaping up to be a fantastic year for the female game in the county.

Brian McDonald joins us to discuss his Manor Rangers side’s 2-0 winning performance against table topping Carbury last weekend to blow the Sligo / Leitrim & District Superleague title race wide open. His eyes firmly on this weekend’s Connacht Junior Cup fixtures but with Manor Rangers’ first ever league title ambitions simmering in the background.

We also talk to Brian about the Sportsperson of the Month award after his inclusion as one of this week’s nominations.

The full list of nominations from this week are:
Local Category: Shane Beirne (Carrick Town), Robbie Cunningham (Manor Rangers) & Brian McDonald (Manor Rangers).

National Category: Alannah McGuinness (Carrick on Shannon Athletic Club), Peter Moran (Sligo / Leitrim U13) & Jack Kelly (Sligo / Leitrim U13) join the previous weeks nominees.
