Episode 96: Sports Round Up

This week we have a real mixed bag on the Sports Round Up. Aughawillan and St. Josephs are battling on the Connacht club front while Niall Morahan puts in a man of the match performance for Sligo Rovers, Fenagh secure their senior status and Matthew Earley & Sligo RFC’s All Ireland League season starts with defeat in Galway.

Eimhin Quinn and Anthony O’Donnell join Breifne to share the heartbreak of the Aughawillan girls 4 point defeat to MacHale Rovers of Mayo in their Junior Semi Final while St. Joseph’s secured their passage to a final with a victory over Roscommon opposition in the shape of neighbours Kilglass.

Breifne is speaking to Donal Wrynn of Fenagh after his team ensured they will be in the Senior Championship draw next season with a straight forward victory over Gortletteragh yesterday afternoon.

We also hear from the secretary of Gortletteragh, Darren Mulvey, about what’s going on in their club after a disappointing season and what the future holds for the now relegated side.

Niall Morahan drops in to chat about his man of the match performance for Sligo Rovers against Shamrock Rovers on Saturday night when Ireland manager Mick McCarthy was in the stadium to watch his direct opponent Jack Byrne.

Finally we get a chance to speak to Dearbhla Rooney of Sean McDermott’s Boxing Club about what her life has been like since winning a bronze medal at the Youth Olympics in Argentina last year.
