Episode 67: Sports Preview

The Club Football Championships are back with a vengeance this weekend with the final round of the Connacht Gold Senior & Smith Monumentals Intermediate Football Championships this weekend while the McCormacks Mace Ladies Senior Championship moves to the Semi Final stage.

With the major talking points in Group 1 where Melvin Gaels, Drumreilly and Fenagh are all in the shakeup for the final two quarter final berths going into the last weekend. There are no direct head to heads though as they face their other group members Glencar/Manor, Mohill and Gortletteragh respectively.

I chat to Melvin Gaels Manager James Phelan and Drumreilly player Declan Maxwell ahead of the crunch games for both sides.

On the women’s game Cammie McPartland (Glencar/Manor) and Vanessa Gallogly (St. Joseph’s) preview their own Semi Final games this weekend with Kiltubrid and Oughteragh Gaels hoping to upset their chances of reaching the decider.

We’ll also be looking at the latter stages of other sports competitions this weekend with the U12 Girls final played earlier this week and the U17 Boys final happening this evening.

Finally we speak to Selina Shanley who’s taking to her bicycle in the wilds of Connemara alongside two of her brothers, Dermot and Morgan, to raise much needed funds for Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of cancer which their Father has recieved treatment for. Now in much better health the Shanley’s wish to pay it forward to benefit other families who are dealing with the disease.
