Episode 117: Sports Preview
It’s a taste of some cracking sporting action on today’s show. We’re chatting about Connacht Club Championships in Gaelic Football, Aviva Stadium showdowns and All Ireland League Debuts in Rugby with Breifne Earley.
Shane Ward, Manager of county champions Glencar Manorhamilton tells us how they have been preparing for the Connacht Club Championship since their final victory a few weeks ago. After winning their first title in 7 years they are chomping at the bit to it up to Mayo champions Ballintubber on Sunday in McHale Park, Castlebar (2pm)
Leitrim Gaels’ Eunan Treacy joins Breifne to chat about their upcoming Connacht Intermediate Club Championships where they travel to Hyde Park to face Roscommon opposition in the shape of Tulsk. Eunan reminisces about his lengthy career with Leitrim Gaels and the opportunity to play Senior Football next season and the options which are now available to youngsters around the village.
FAI Development Officer Damon Kearney joins us to chat about the FAI Senior Cup Finals which take will place on Sunday afternoon in the Aviva Stadium. As well as being a centrepiece of the domestic game there is specific Leitrim interest both on and off the pitch on Sunday. Mohill’s Dearbhaile Beirne will be playing with League Champions Peamount in the women’s decider while Emma Cleary will be acting as the 4th Official on the day.
Finally Leitrim Village’s Matthew Earley shares his excitement at being named in the starting 15 for Sligo Rugby in the All Ireland League for the very first time. Sligo RFC face Dungannon at 2:30pm in Hamilton Park, Strandhill tomorrow in Division 2B of the All Ireland League.
