Episode 17: In Focus – Fló Beo and Ailbhe Clancy
It’s a full house of inspirational women in sport on today’s show. First up 3 Leitrim ladies are in the final stages of preparations for swimming the length of Ireland’s longest river, the Shannon. Mother and daughter, Eileen & Heather Maxwell and their friend Tobin McGlynn join Breifne to talk about the challenge that lies ahead from the 1st of August.
Having watched Paddy O’Donnell become the first Irish man to finish the 260km distance from Dowra to Limerick last summer and Heather was inspired to do the same. Her mother and Toni signed up and with the help of their friend’s Siobhan Doran and Jo O’Brien they have all of their logistics and sponsorship in place.
With a target of €20,000 in fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society and A Lust For Life a busy month of swimming and fundraising is in store for the trio.
I’m also joined by Glenfarne’s Ailbhe Clancy on her return from the World University Games in Italy having experienced heartbreak after missing out on a bronze medal by losing to Russia on penalties in the 3rd / 4th place playoff match.
