Episode 23: Faces & Places: Manorhamilton Wild Rose Festival
This week for Faces & Places, Breifne is at the opening of the revived Manorhamilton Wild Rose Festival where each of the Roses and invited guests are introduced to the crowd after a 21 year absence from the social calendar of the town.
Despite the awful weather a fantastic crowd was on the streets to see the girls arrive in style in classic cars for the official opening ceremony and later in the day at the Go Kart Derby on Park Road.
Breifne caught up with some of the girls bidding to become the 2019 International Wild Rose from Madrid, London and a few a little closer to home. Festival Chairman Tommy Flynn is the event MC and introduces local poet Stephen Murphy, one of the founders of the original Wild Rose Festival Oliver Haslette and former MEP Marian Harkin who officially opened the festival.
Breifne also spoke to the 1987 Wild Rose Winner Brid (Feehily) Fallon who has also played a major role in the revival of the festival in her role as one of the main sponsors of the festival, The Castle Dargan Hotel.
