Book Club @ Leitrim Daily – October 2020

Social Distancing has meant the end of social book clubs and members have been missing their monthly fix, so we at Leitrim Daily have decided to start one that you can all join.

The Book Club @ Leitrim Daily panel includes published author Kevin McManus (0:19), retired librarian Hilda King (6:38), Orlagh Kelly (15:32) from The Reading Room Bookshop in Carrick on Shannon with our very own Mary Blake as the host of the monthly show.

In today’s introduction episode, we meet the panel and learn what has been selected as the book of the month.

Orlagh also gives a rundown on some of the new releases by local authors or of local interest out this month including Seamus O’Rourke’s memoir ‘Standing in Gaps’, ‘What Is Beautiful In The Sky’ by Michael Harding, John McLoughlin’s first novel ‘You, Me and Destiny’, ‘And The Sky Didn’t Fall’ by first time writer Colleen McCarthy from Drumsna, Paul Clements documents his travels in ‘Shannon Country’, Patrick McGarty details elements of the counties history in ‘Leitrim: The Irish Revolution’, Faye Hayden’s children’s book ‘United We Play’ is a fundraiser for Join Our Boys, former Roscommon football Ronan Brady details his journey from football to flying in ‘Worlds Apart’ and finishing the list of local interest with near neighbour, former president of Ireland, Mary McAleese with ‘Here’s The Story’.

We would love if you would read along with us and give us your feedback on the show to bookclub@leitrimdaily.com or @leitrimdaily on all social media.

You can order a copy of the book now from The Reading Room Bookshop in Carrick on Shannon, you can pop in or contact Orlagh at 071 9671580. You’ll even get 10% off the book when you mention the Book Club @ Leitrim Daily.
